Geography [ edit ] Liévin is located on the border of France and Belgium, about 10 km (6.2 mi) from Arras, at the junction of the N43 with National Route N4. It is in a region called Hauts-de-France which encompasses most of northern France and Paris.[1] The town has an altitude ranging from 100 to 110 m (330 to 360 ft).[2] Liévin's territory covers 740 hectares.[3] Its population was estimated at 20,000 inhabitants in 2006,[4][5][6] including 11% foreigners living there permanently[7]. This number does not include people living within its urban area but outside municipal limits; it was 26,904 inhabitants according to INSEE as of 1999,[8], 30 967 according to census data for 2010[9]. It is part of Artois / Pas de Calais' natural region. The city center lies 2 kilometers away from both Belgian and French borders.
