In the late 1960s, Saint-Tropez became a spring break destination for rock musicians and their fans. The town has become a very wealthy residential haven for celebrities including film stars (e.g., Brigitte Bardot), models (e.g., Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer) and musicians (e.g., David Bowie). In 1994, Time Magazine named it "the world's most beautiful beach", citing its clear water and "golden sand". It is also an important luxury yachting port of call with the marina of Saint Tropez in nearby Les Issambres frequently ranked among the top five small cruise ship destinations in terms of customer satisfaction by Condé Nast Traveler magazine . Saint-Tropez is located on France's Mediterranean Sea coast at , where it extends into the Étang de Berre lagoon to form one side of a small gulf known as La Baie des Fourmis ("The Ants' Bay").
