The town is also home to a large rock, the Roc de la Plata (the Silver Rock), which has been used as a place of worship by pilgrims since the Middle Ages. Plaisance-du-Touch was formerly known as Plasencia or La Pleta in Spanish and Catalan, from its location near the river Touch. The name changed after it became part of France following the Treaty of Corbeil in 1258.[1] It was not until 1660 that it took on its current French name.
