Cognac (French: [kɔɲak] (listen); Saintongeais: Cougnat; Occitan: Conhac [kuˈɲak] (listen)) is a commune in the Charente department in the south-west of France. Administratively, the commune of Cognac is a sub-prefecture of the Charente department.




Cognac is a town in France, located on the river Charente. It is about 15 km (9 mi) south-east of Angoulême and 80 km (50 mi) north of Bordeaux. Cognac has been named as one of the most beautiful towns in France, and it was ranked among the top ten places to live by magazine Monocle for 2014.
