Châlons-en-Champagne is a subprefecture of the Marne department. It is surrounded by Châlons forest, and located at the confluence of the Marne river with two tributaries: The Suippe and The Seille rivers. The city's main tourist attraction lies in its medieval quarter (the "Vieux Châlons"), but there are also many facilities including a large park (the Parc Floral de Champagne), an 18th century palace, several museums, an art gallery ("Musée des Beaux Arts") as well as some notable churches such as Saint-Étienne or Notre Dame du Port which has been classified since 1840 among France's national monuments.
