The two medieval townships of Rennes-sur-les-Monts and Saint-Énogat merged in 1832 to form the commune of Dinard. Inhabitants of Dinard are called "Dinardois". In 2008, 533 single homes were counted in Dinard. These homes were divided into 342 main residences (68%) and 171 second or occasional residences (32%). Three fourths of the main residences are occupied by their owners, one third is rented for vacation purposes; one fifth is used as a holiday home or secondary residence. The rate of ownership is higher among the main residences than among second residencies: 81% versus 19%. This difference reflects that many more summer houses have been built on permanent foundations than winter houses: only 55% versus 45%.
