Vourles is located in the heart of the Beaujolais wine region, and has a population of around 1,500. The commune is bordered by Saint-Amour to the north, Fleurieux-sur-Saône to the east and south east (both also part of Rhône department), Saint Georges de Reneins to west and Chaponnay on its western border. The village lies at an altitude between 160m (525 ft) above sea level in its southern areas rising up towards 350m (1 150 ft) at Mont Vouilloux which dominates it from north west. The area surrounding Vourles consists mainly of rolling hills with some small valleys running down into Saone river valley where there are several villages including Les Charbonnières which forms one side boundary with Fleurieux sur Saone along with other smaller villages such as Le Bois d'Oingt that form part boundaries too.
