Thonon is the capital of the Chablais wine region. - Wikipedia Things to do in Thonon-les-Bains Château de Chillon The Castle of Chillon (French: Le château de Chillon) is an island castle located on Lake Geneva, near Veytaux in the canton of Vaud. It is situated at the eastern end of Switzerland's Rhone valley and commands a strategic position between Savoy and Burgundy, which it has exploited since its construction around 1230 by Peter II, Count of Savoy. The fortress was captured by Francis I after he defeated Charles III, Duke of Savoy during Montmorency's campaign against Geneva in 1536; however it was returned to his son Philibert Emmanuel two years later following a treaty signed at Crépy-en-Laonnais that same year.
