About Montélimar

The town is located on the Rhône River, between Valence and Avignon. It has a railway station served by TGV (high speed trains) and local TER services. There are also roads to Lyon, Grenoble, Gap and Marseille as well as an international airport nearby. The climate of Montélimar is temperate with Mediterranean influences; it enjoys one of the sunniest climates in France due to its proximity to the Côte d'Azur.[1] History [ edit ] Montélimar was founded during Roman times when Agrippa built a road from Lyon across the Alps towards Italy along which many soldiers were stationed.[2] A small settlement named Alliacum was established near where today's city center is located.
