About Les Avelas

Banne is located some 15 km south-east of Aubenas and 10 km north-west of Le Pouzin. Access to the commune is by road D9 from Saint-Martin in the north passing through the heart of the commune and continuing south to join National Highway N102 at Exit 12 near Largentière. The D8 branches off this road on entering Banne and goes west then south down a tortuous route to join another branch which comes from La Bastide d'Engras (in Les Vans) in order to continue east into Saint Martin en Charrentes. There are also several small country roads that go towards Le Bouchaud, Clos de la Roque, La Bastide d'Engras, or connect with other nearby villages such as Châteauneuf or Englas. The railway line between Lyon/Grenoble passes through Banne but there is no station within its boundaries although it has been proposed for many years now that one be built at "La Croix Neuve".
