About Nicosia

Nicosia is divided into four main parts: the old city, called "the walled city", with a historic labyrinth of narrow streets and medieval buildings; the new northern suburbs (Küçük Kaymaklı); Gazi (Hala Sultan Tekke) to the east, where many restaurants are located; and Ayios Dometios on the west bank of River Pedieos. It is a historical and economic centre. The most important financial institution in Cyprus, Laiki Bank International Limited was based in Nicosia until 2013 when it relocated its headquarters to Limassol as part of an EU-mandated restructuring plan following Cypriot government–debt crisis. In July 2018, Nicosia was voted as one of top 10 cities for startups by Seedcamp .
