The city also houses many national and international companies like Claro (Colombia), Movistar (Colombia), Tigo-UNE (Colombia) or Cementos Argos S.A., among others.The city's airport is named after Carlos Alberto Rondón Espinosa, a Colombian football player who died in an airplane accident while traveling with his team Atlético Nacional on November 27th 1993; it connects Pereira with other major cities in Colombia such as Bogotá and Medellín through regular flights operated by Avianca - Aerovías del Continente Americano S.A.. It has been recently remodeled to improve its capacity for passengers; it now serves over 300 thousand people per year.
