Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (Chinese: 成都双流国际机场; pinyin: Chéngdū Shuāngliú Guójì Jīchǎng) is the main airport serving Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province in China. It is located about 20 kilometres (12 mi) northwest of downtown Chengdu to the north-northeast and covers an area of 3,700 hectares. The airport has two runways which are 2,800 metres (9,200 ft) and 3,400 metres long respectively. In 2016 it was the 6th busiest civil airport by passenger traffic in China with 44 million passengers handled that year making it one of only five Chinese airports with more than 40 million passengers annually along with Beijing Capital International Airport , Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport , Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International . It was also ranked 7th busiest for cargo traffic in China at 1.
