Xi'an is home to the Shaanxi Historic Museum, which was established in 1954 and has become the largest museum of ancient Chinese history and culture in northwest China. In 2014, Xi'an had a GDP of RMBtrillion (US$110 billion), making it one of the leading cities in China for economic growth.Xi'an currently holds sub-provincial status; its urban area is also known as Xi’anshi (西宁市) or Xidian () while its built up region is called Xianyang City (). As a prefecture-level city, it administers ten districts: all districts except Chang’ an District administer both urban and rural areas; Chang’ an only administers urban area. The mayor's office also serves as that of Shaannan Prefecture (), although this title may not be used officially according to law.
