The Subansiri River originates in the Himalayas, on the northern slopes of the Daxue Mountains (Tibetan: དྲ་གླ་; pinyin: dàxuě) and flows through a deep gorge between two mountain ranges. The river is joined by its tributary, Nyang River at Jairampur. It then flows north-westwards across Arunachal Pradesh state to enter Assam where it joins with another major tributary, Siang River which drains most of central and western parts of Arunachal Pradesh before flowing into Tinsukia district in Assam.[1] The main part of Subansiri basin lies within Tibet's Lhünzê County (Chinese: 西巴塞县; pinyin: xībā sāi xiàn), Shannan Prefecture.
