Whitehorse is the economic, transportation and cultural centre of Yukon. The White Pass railway was established to transport prospectors during the Klondike Gold Rush, and today three Canadian Pacific Railway mainline routes connect there. The airport serves as the main access point for those heading to nearby Kluane National Park and Reserve; it also provides daily scheduled flights to other major cities in Canada (Vancouver, Edmonton) as well as Frankfurt am Main in Germany with Condor Airlines. There are two separate public school districts: Western International High School which teaches grades 10–12 from around the world (including about 150 students from China), while École Bilingue Jeunesse teaches grades K-9 on a French immersion basis.
