Saint-Hyacinthe (; French: [sɛ̃t‿ijasɛ̃t]) is a city in southwestern Quebec east of Montreal on the Yamaska River. The population as of the 2016 Canadian Census was 55,648. The city is located in Les Maskoutains Regional County Municipality of the Montérégie region, and is traversed by the Yamaska River.  Quebec Autoroute 20 runs perpendicular to the river. Saint-Hyacinthe is the seat of the judicial district of the same name.


The city was founded in 1671 by the Sulpician Order. It is located on the Saint-Lawrence River, near Quebec City and Montreal. The area around Saint-Hyacinthe is known as "the granary of Lower Canada" because of its many farms producing wheat and other grains.
Saint-Hyacinthe's economy is based on agriculture (wheat, corn) as well as a growing technology sector that includes companies such as IBM, Xerox and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services (HPE).
