The city's main industries are forestry, mining and tourism. Rouyn-Noranda is the seat of the judicial district of Abitibi-Ouest. It also serves as a regional service centre for several municipalities in northwestern Quebec, including La Sarre and Val d'Or to the south; Amos to the east; Malartic further north; and Chibougamau even further north. The city has an airport (Rouyn-Noranda Airport) with scheduled flights from Air Canada Jazz connecting it with Montreal Dorval Airport or Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport during winter months only, via its hub at Mirabel International Airport near Montreal. Rouyn Noranda is served by two highways: Route 117 (northwest), which connects it to Matagami on James Bay via Radisson in about ; Route 101 (east), which leads directly into downtown Ottawa through Gatineau after .
