The city is served by the Rimouski Airport. History In 1696, during King William's War, a group of Englishmen and Indians led by Robert Sedgwick captured the French settlement at present-day Rimouski after a battle which left one person dead from each side. The Battle of Rimouski ended with the surrender of more than 900 French colonists and British occupation lasted until 1713 when Quebec was returned to France in accordance with the Treaty of Utrecht. In 1720, however, following another conflict between Britain and France (the War of Spanish Succession), it was retaken again by British forces who would remain there for thirteen years before finally withdrawing once more in 1742 following yet another treaty - this time known as Peace Aix-la-Chapelle - ending hostilities between Britain and France once again.
