About Summerside

The city is situated in the west-central portion of the island. Summerside's population has been stable since 2001, at just under 27,000 residents. The city was incorporated in 1874 and is named for Princess Victoria, daughter of Queen Victoria (1819–1901). In 2017 it had a population of 26,739 according to Statistics Canada. It also hosts several annual events including "Summerside's Got Talent", held every January; "Festival by the Sea", held annually during springtime; and various other events throughout the year such as craft fairs and food festivals which are hosted on a regular basis throughout Summerside. The largest single employer within Summerside is Bell Aliant with 1'200 employees followed closely by Walmart Canada with over 800 employees working at their location within town limits along with many more employed through local businesses that supply goods or services to these two companies or others based out of town but servicing those who live here like doctors offices etc...
