The town is home to the Confederation Bridge, which links Prince Edward Island with mainland New Brunswick. The bridge was completed in 1997 and opened on May 31 of that year. It replaced Marine Atlantic's ferry service between North Cape and Caribou, Nova Scotia (the latter being a community located near the province's easternmost point). Borden-Carleton is also home to CFB Borden Military Camp as well as an air force base for Air Cadets known as 442 Squadron located at RCAF Station Borden; both are operated by National Defence Canada.
