The village is located at the intersection of Waterloo Regional Road 54 and Ontario Highway 8. It is surrounded by the Township of Woolwich, which has a population of approximately 50,000 people. St Jacobs Farmers' Market was founded in 1975 as a non-profit organization to promote local agriculture and provide an outlet for farmers to sell their produce directly to consumers. The market runs every Saturday from May through October on King Street between Mill Street North (formerly Bridge St.) and Queen Street South (formerly Courtland Ave.). In addition there are over 100 vendors selling arts & crafts along with food stands offering prepared foods such as baked goods, crepes or ice cream during all operating hours; some offer live entertainment throughout the season including musicians playing folk music on fiddle or guitar while others have magicians performing tricks for children who gather around them in awe.
