The St. Catharines Standard (founded 1874) is the daily newspaper; the Niagara News (1871), Welland Tribune (1877), Lincoln Banner & Press/Niagara Falls Review/Welland County News are weekly newspapers published on Wednesdays; and there are several community weeklies including the Thorold Niagara News, Port Colborne Tribune Chronicle and Fort Erie Times Reporter that serve different portions of St. Catharines' extended area as well as other nearby communities such as Pelham, Wainfleet or Merrittville which have their own local papers: The Pelham Weekly Observer and Merrittville Mirror respectively). There is also one monthly publication: Alternative Magazine based in Thorold publishes articles about local culture entertainment events etc.
