About Prince Edward

The island is the site of North America's easternmost point, Cape Spear. The island has a rocky coastline with many beaches and long white sandbars. The climate is in general very mild; however, winter temperatures can fall to −15 °C (5 °F) or below at times and summer temperatures can rise above 30 °C (86 °F). The Gulf Stream keeps the winters warmer but also makes hurricanes possible; none have occurred since 1866 though one was recorded from September through October 2003. Summers are generally warm but windy as well as wet due to powerful onshore winds known locally as "the 100-mile-an-hour winds".
