About Pickering

The city is situated on the south shore of Lake Ontario, east of Toronto. Pickering borders Ajax to the west, Whitby to the north and east and Uxbridge Township (Durham Region) in York Region to its south. The Rouge River runs through its eastern section. Pickering has a population density of 2,742 inhabitants per square kilometre (6,955/sq mi), making it one of Canada's most densely populated municipalities.[5] It is also considered part of Greater Toronto within the GTA census metropolitan area.[6] In 2016,[7][8][9] MoneySense magazine ranked Pickering as "Canada's Best Place To Live",[10] while in 2014 it was named among "the best places in Canada for new immigrants".[11][12].
