Fort Erie is the eastern terminus of the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW), although it is not signed as such. The actual QEW terminus is in St. Catharines at the Peace Bridge, which crosses into Buffalo, New York and connects with Interstate 190 and New York State Route 5 (the Scajaquada Expressway). Fort Erie's other highway links include Highway 3A to Port Colborne and Highway 62/62B to Welland. The town was once home to an important steel plant operated by Bethlehem Steel Corporation called "Dofasco", now owned by ArcelorMittal Dofasco Inc., a world leader in flat-rolled steel production with facilities located throughout North America including Hamilton, Ontario; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Burns Harbor Indiana; Cleveland Ohio & Richmond Virginia . In addition there are two major railway yards nearby belonging respectively to Canadian National Railway Company & Canadian Pacific Railway Company . These rail connections have made it possible for Fort Erie manufacturers to become heavily involved in supplying both domestic markets as well as export markets worldwide.
