The town is situated at the edge of a large limestone plain, which has been extensively quarried. The stone was used for many of Ottawa's most notable buildings including Parliament Hill and the National War Memorial. The town is home to Carleton Place High School, one of Ontario's top high schools in terms of academic performance and extracurricular activities.[1] It also has two elementary schools: Stirling Avenue Public School (Public) and St. Peter Catholic Elementary School (Catholic). There are several parks throughout the community including Centennial Park on Mississippi Lake as well as a skateboard park located behind Centennial Park that opened in 2013.
