The community is home to the Brooklin Village Museum, which was founded in 1975. The museum has a collection of over 1,000 artifacts and exhibits that depict life in rural Ontario from 1850-1950. It also offers educational programs for school groups and special events throughout the year including an annual Christmas open house with Santa Claus. Brooklin is located within the federal riding of Whitby—Oshawa (formerly known as Durham) and provincially within Whitby—Oshawa (formerly known as Pickering).
