Bracebridge is located in the Muskoka District of Ontario, Canada. It is situated on the banks of the Muskoka River at its confluence with Wilson's Creek and High Falls Creek. The town centre lies between these two waterfalls, which are both smaller than Bracebridge's namesake waterfall (also known as "The Great Falls"), which was destroyed by a hydroelectric dam built in 1910–1911 upstream from town. The area around Bracebridge has been inhabited for thousands of years by First Nations peoples; archaeological evidence shows that they were drawn to this location due to its abundant natural resources and strategic position along major travel routes through central Ontario.
