The community is home to the MacDonald High School Memorial Arena, which was built in 1936 and named after a local resident who died during World War II. The arena has been used for many events over the years including hockey games, boxing matches and concerts. It is still in use today as an ice rink by several area teams such as Glace Bay Minor Hockey Association (GBMHA), Dominion Figure Skating Club (DFSC) and others.
