The City of Richmond, together with the City of Vancouver and the District of West Vancouver, is known as the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD). The "Greater" was added to distinguish it from a regional municipality in Surrey. It is also referred to as Metro Richmond or officially by its full name: Greater Vancouver Regional District. Richmond has been ranked among Canada's top ten livable cities by MoneySense magazine since 2009; ranking seventh in 2014 and second most recently in 2017. With an average household income just under $100,000 per annum (the highest on Canada's west coast), many areas within Richmond are considered some of British Columbia's wealthiest neighbourhoods outside Metro Vancouver such as Point Grey with an average household income exceeding $300,000 annually according to 2011 statistics compiled by Macleans Magazine .
