About Burnaby

Burnaby has been ranked as one of the best places to live in Canada for a number of years. It is home to two major shopping malls, Metropolis at Metrotown and Lougheed Mall, which are the two largest shopping centres in British Columbia. In 2016, it was rated "Canada's most family-friendly city" by "MoneySense". The Indigenous peoples of what is now called Burnaby were members of three groups: the Saarhaht/Sḵwxwú7mesh (a Coast Salish language), Tsleil-Waututh (the People along Burrard Inlet) and Sto:lo or Stó:lō (Halkomelem). The Saarhaht/Sḵwxwú7mesh people lived on hunting and fishing; however before European settlement they had begun farming with some domesticated plants brought over from Asia.
