About Red Deer

Red Deer had a population of 99,957 in 2015. Red Deer is the third largest city in Alberta and it is located approximately halfway between Calgary and Edmonton, with both cities being roughly 130 km (81 mi) away by highway. Red Deer was incorporated as a town on August 2, 1899 and became a city on January 1, 2001. The current mayor of Red Deer is Tara Veer; she was elected to this position on October 21st 2017 after receiving over 50% of votes cast during the municipal election held earlier that month.[8] In 2014-2015 Mayor Veer led her community through an ambitious project called "Redeveloping Downtown", which included multiple new construction projects such as two new hotels: Hampton Inn & Suites[9] (opened March 2016) and Holiday Inn Express[10](opened June 2016), along with several other mixed use buildings including one housing CTV's local news station for Central Alberta - CTV News Channel.
