The main economic activities are cattle raising, commerce, and agriculture. The GDP in 2005 was R$33 million, with 14 million from services, 1 million from industry, and 12 million from agriculture. Rio Paranaíba is in the top tier of municipalities in the state with regard to economic and social development. As of 2007 there were no banking agencies in the town. There was a small retail infrastructure serving the surrounding area of cattle and agricultural lands . In the rural area there were 628 establishments employing about 2200 workers (2006). Only 24 of these had electricity. In 2006 there were 4 health clinics; 1 public hospital; 5 primary schools; 3 middle schools; and 2 pre-primary schools.. There was a campus branch for students at Estrada do Coco which offers courses on agronomy as well as other areas related to human resources development such as nursing or physical education/sports management..
