The current flag of Vilvoorde dates from 17 November 1991. It is a banner of arms, i.e., the right half is the same as the left half, only turned upside down (counterchanged). The colours are derived from those used in the coat of arms: black and yellow/golden with red highlights. Vilvoorde has three railway stations: Vilvoorde-Kiewit (on line 26), Vilvoorde-Westrem (line 27) and Filtonnenstraat / Gevaertplein (line 28). Trains run to Brussels every 10 minutes during rush hour; otherwise about every 15 minutes or so throughout most off-peak hours on weekdays; less frequently at weekends. There are also several bus lines running through town operated by De Lijn and providing access to all quarters of town as well as neighbouring suburbs such as Mechelen or Sint-Pieters Leeuw for example .
