Lisa del Bo was born in Mopertingen, a small village near Liege. She studied piano and vocals at the conservatory of Tongeren (Belgium) and she took singing lessons with Jean-Pierre Van Rossem. In 1980, she won the song contest "De Gouden Pepernoot" ("The Golden Peppermint") which enabled her to record an album produced by Marc Moulin for EMI Belgium. The title track became a hit in Flanders but also abroad where it reached number 1 on the Dutch charts as well as reaching top 10 positions in Germany and Switzerland too. This success led to Lisa being invited to represent Belgium at Eurovision Song Contest 1981 with "J'aime la vie".
