About Gotem
It is located in the valley of the river Meuse, between Borgloon and Lanaken. The town has a population of 1,846 (2007). It was mentioned for the first time in 1135 as "Gotem". The origin of its name is not clear; it might be derived from an old Germanic word meaning 'small forest'. Another theory suggests that it could have been named after Saint Godehardus.
