The list is sorted by province, and then by municipality. The Belgian provinces have no strict boundaries; the borders of each province are determined by historical, linguistic and cultural factors. In Flanders these are called 'deelgemeenten' ('partial municipalities') or 'kwartierstaten' ('quarter states'), while in Wallonia they are known as 'arrondissements'.
