The list is sorted by province, and then by municipality. The Belgian provinces have no strict boundaries; the borders of each province are determined by historical, linguistic and cultural factors. As a result, there may be several municipalities within a county (in Dutch: "gemeente", in French: "commune"). In Flanders these are called 'deelgemeenten' ('partial municipalities') or 'kwartierstaten' ('quarter states'), while in Wallonia they are known as 'arrondissements'.
