The French name is often cited as Ukkel or Du Couteau. The municipality is largely situated in the north-east of the Brussels Capital Region, along the border with Flanders and adjacent to Schaerbeek, Etterbeek and Saint-Josse-ten-Noode. The main areas of Uccle are Groenplaats (Dutch: groenplein) / Place du Jardinier (French: jardinière), Avenue de Tervueren/Tervurenlaan, Avenue Louise/Louizalaan, Chaussée de Waterloo/Waterloosesteenweg and Rue d'Arlon/Aarlensestraat. There are several ponds in Uccle; some have been turned into recreational lakes: Parc du Lac des Minimes ("Minime's Lake"), Parc d'Omonville ("Omonville Park") & Lac Vert ("Green Lake"). A regional natural reserve has been established on part of "Parc d'Omonville".
