The Buenos Aires Underground (locally known as Subte, from the abbreviation of the Spanish name), is a mass transit metro system that serves the area of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Currently it has 6 lines and a total length of more than 150 km (93 mi). The network expanded rapidly during recent decades; in February 2013, there were 36.9 million trips made throughout all lines—which also provides long-distance intercity service to suburban destinations not reached by rail—making it one of busiest metro systems in Latin America. It is operated by Metrovías S.A.
