The town is also known for the red and white wines of the Côte de Beaune subregion, which it lends its name to. The "Côte" is a narrow strip running north-south between Meursault and Santenay, with 2 Grand Cru vineyards within Beaune's city limits: Clos de Vougeot (the most famous) and Clos des Mouches. Beaune has several primary schools including L'Ecole maternelle et élémentaire Saint-Exupéry (preschool through 6th grade), one junior high school Collège du Château Blanc (7th through 9th grades), one senior high school Lycée Blaise Pascal(10th through 12th grades). There are two Catholic private schools: Institution Sainte Marie among them; then there is Institution Saintonge in nearby Gevrey-Chambertin.
